Funnel Marketing Manager

About the job

This role is to focus on the design, execution, and delivery of IPSE’s funnel marketing activities. Campaign planning, copywriting, and analysis will be central to this role. Working closely with the team to assist in the launch of integrated marketing campaigns at all stages of the funnel - brand awareness, lead generation, acquisition, and engagement. 

You will be confident with a wide range of digital channels (email, social media, content, SEO), but events and print are also crucial to our audience reach. You will be willing to roll-up your sleeves and assist in the delivery of our owned media channels. 

You will be analytical by nature, using data to continually optimise creatives, channels, and messaging to deliver maximum results. You will also be able to flex your creative muscles with the rest of the team, as we love to test new ideas in all our work. We need someone who is a natural self-motivator to ensure we keep moving IPSE forward!

Acting as a central point for marketing across the organisation, you’ll work closely with Events, Policy, Press, and Membership teams to ensure all marketing activity coordinated and executed with maximum effect.

With all the new ideas and multiple campaigns running across our channels, you will need to have an expert level of organisation and enjoy project managing across different specialisms in the team, to ensure campaigns get delivered on time and on budget.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with the Marketing team to devise integrated marketing campaigns with the aim of acquiring and retaining members.
  • Project manage the implementation, tracking, and measurement of marketing campaigns.
  • Work closely with the team to maximise ROI for brand awareness, and member acquisition and retention campaigns.
  • Deliver regular reports of campaign results, analysing the efficacy of channels and evaluation of KPIs.
  • Manage various marketing email campaigns, including the template designs, calls-to-action, and content used in our email sends.
  • Segment member and non-member data to tailor campaigns and communications to maximise effectiveness.
  • Act as a central point for marketing across the organisation, working closely with events, partnerships, policy, and press teams to deliver campaigns.
  • Measure results and optimize the lead nurturing workflows for these segments to convert leads into customers, through email, content, and social channels.
  • Use data to inform new campaigns and implement constant test and learn strategy, assisting the team with A/B testing and other methodologies.
  • Creative mind-set, looking for innovative solutions to achieve organisation objectives.
  • Write, edit, and proofread copy for promotional materials within marketing campaigns.
  • Help to brief and oversee the work of internal and external agencies, such as designers, animators and printers when needed.
  • Ensure that the organisation’s brand and identity is adhered to in campaigns and in all communication channels.
  • Work within a set budget.
  • Keep abreast of current trends in marketing.

 

Key skills

  • Superb organisational and project management skills to work with the team to deliver engaging marketing campaigns.
  • Highly analytical and able to derive meaning from data through A/B testing and optimization, with an ability to use data to inform decisions.
  • Excellent communicator, in both written and oral skills.
  • A creative thinker to continually challenge the status quo and try new ideas.
  • Experience with email marketing, social media, lead nurturing, and web analytics.
  • Proficiency in web analytics software (e.g. Google Analytics, Google Data Studio, Hotjar) and email software (e.g. Campaign Monitor).

 

Experience

  • Undergraduate or higher level of education, in marketing, business, communications, or similar.
  • 4+ years of relevant marketing experience.
  • Demonstrable results in executing multi-channel campaigns to increase brand awareness, leads, and/or revenue in B2C/D2C environments.
  • Preferred – experience in subscription, membership, or recurring revenue industries.
  • Preferred – hands-on experience/specialism of email marketing and/or social media.

Content and SEO Executive

About the job

As the Content and SEO Executive, you will be responsible for IPSE’s organic reach capabilities, across our IPSE and Freelance Corner brands. You will coordinate the creation and execution of the content strategy across our websites, optimising for maximum reach. 

As a SEO and writing expert, you will assist with the implementation of best practice across the organisation, be responsible for curating valuable content for our audience and source new and exciting writers from the freelance community to contribute.

Responsibilities

  • Help create the content strategy across all the IPSE and Freelance Corner brands.
  • Coordinate content delivery schedule across the company in-line with strategy.
  • Be the guardian of IPSE and Freelance Corner’s tone of voice and writing style.
  • Implement SEO best practice across the company to maximise SERP results.
  • To create and actively pursue our backlink strategy.
  • Develop content in other media, e.g. photo, video, infographics, webinars.
  • Adding or editing website content using the appropriate Content Management Systems; ensuring consistency of design and layout of content across the sites.
  • Assist across the team in ad-hoc support for social media, content, and emails.
  • Responsible for the production of podcasts for Freelance Corner, including the acquisition of guests, organisation, and overseeing the editing of the podcasts.
  • Assist in the production of video content, including overseeing the editing process, acquiring video content, and evaluating the success of video content.
  • Editing and commissioning written content for in line with the objectives of the company.
  • Use of analytic platforms such as Google Analytics in order to evaluate the success of content.
  • Manage freelance support when required.

 

Skills

  • Superior writing and storytelling skills that engages and delights.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in copywriting and SEO execution.
  • Ability to conduct content research and identify topic areas to generate maximum interest.
  • Proficient in understanding commercial performance data and extracting and manipulating customer data with the ability to convert it into actionable information.
  • Knowledge of photo/video editing.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud programs including Photoshop and Premiere Pro.
  • Online software, such as Canva.
  • A creative thinker to continually challenge the status quo and try new ideas.
  • Proficiency in web analytics software (e.g. Google Analytics, Google Data Studio, Hotjar).
  • Excellent communicator with ability to sell and convince.

 

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, English, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of relevant content experience.
  • Experience using SEO and content software, such as SEMRush and BuzzSumo.
  • Preferred – experience in subscription, membership, or recurring revenue industries.
  • Self-motivated, with a strong work ethic, looking for the right company to support personal growth.
  • Knowledge of the self-employed sector and political environment preferred.
  • Networks and contacts within the self-employed community.
  • Understanding of tax legislation and its impact on independent professionals.
  • Understanding of the UK’s labour market and latest trends in self-employment.

Policy and Communications Manager

The Policy and Communications Manager reports directly to the Head of Communications and Policy and Engagement. The team reports to the Director of Policy and Member Engagement

The role holder will assist the Head of Communications and Policy Engagement with delivering excellent media coverage for IPSE, as well as developing policy positions and articulating these to external policymakers, members of staff and IPSE members. Working closely with teams across the organisation, the Policy and Communications Manager will help to boost the reputation of both IPSE and self-employment more broadly.

The Candidate

The right candidate will have excellent written and verbal communications skills, a good grasp of the political landscape and a strong background in PR and communications, policy making or journalism.

Experience working in communications/policy for a membership organisation, think tank or trade body is desirable but not essential. 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, research and promote IPSE’s policy positions – in line with the organisation’s strategic goals
  • Developing lines, identifying positive story opportunities, and preparing proactive statements, press releases and comment
  • Own key policy areas designated by the Director of Policy (currently includes Covid support, tax changes, employment status, late payment, Universal Credit) and be able to advise senior management and members as required
  • Preparing, handling and delivering plans and briefings on high-profile and complex issues, often to short deadlines and under pressure
  • Write and maintain policy guides and information for members and the wider self-employed on IPSE’s website
  • Develop and maintain contacts in government departments, especially the Treasury and BEIS
  • Help to develop IPSE’s response to consultations and major policy events such as the Budget and Autumn Statement
  • Work with the marketing team to source case studies for press and policy work where relevant
  • Help to prepare IPSE’s newsletter
  • Copy-editing and proof-reading content from across the business as required
  • Contributing to out of hours media work as required
  • Attending external meetings and events as required 

 

Person specification and experience
  • Degree or equivalent qualification
  • At least two years’ experience in policy / press / PR or journalism
  • Must be an excellent communicator both in writing and orally
  • Excellent understanding of the UK Parliament and political system
  • Exceptional writing skills, able to quickly produce quality copy for a range of different audiences
  • Experience of writing policy papers, economic reports, briefings or similar for a variety of audiences including senior executives, politicians and the public
  • Experience of networking, influencing and building effective relationships within a complex organisation
  • Experience working in press and PR for a membership organisation or trade body with political objectives
  • Proven track record of securing high-profile national media coverage 
  • Experience of working with a wide range of people from different cultures and countries
