IPSE Member Meet-Up: IR35 - Are you working via an umbrella, or have you managed to stay off-payroll?

No one is immune, it seems, from the wretched IR35 – even former captains of England. Gary Lineker’s high profile tussle with HMRC underlines once again just how complex these rules are.

That complexity is why so many genuinely self-employed contractors have been forced into quasi-employment. Their clients, which now have to wrestle with IR35 determinations, will inevitably be getting it wrong in some cases and those wrong decisions are costing thousands of pounds and putting people out of business.

In IPSE’s second member meet-up we want to hear from you, our members. How have the IR35 changes impacted you? Are you now working via an umbrella company? How have you found it? Or have you managed to find a client that has determined IR35 doesn’t apply? Or a small client or overseas client, who doesn’t have to make an IR35 decision at all?

The meeting will facilitated by IPSE’s Andy Chamberlain and held on Zoom in an open format so members can see and hear each other and join in with the informal conversation. We’ll probably also have a good chat about Mr Lineker’s case and his chances of beating HMRC.

To keep the discussion manageable spaces will be limited and given on a first-come-first-served basis. If you don’t get in, don’t worry - we intend to do more of these events in the near future.
