IR35 latest advice and much more

IPSE was founded more than 24 years ago, originally to fight against the harmful IR35 legislation that, sadly, Government, in April 2021, chose to roll out to the private sector. We will remain here to support our members through these changes and beyond, and the IR35 section of IPSE Advice includes our guide to the legislation, information about what happens if you are subject to an investigation, practical advice on how to deal with the IR35 changes and how to protect yourself from being caught out.

To ensure that our members are prepared for all eventualities, the insurance section provides details and information on the often confusing range of options available and/or necessary to run your business. We help you work out what you actually need and may even be able to get you a discounted deal in the process.

This section covers all you need to know about professional indemnity insurance, public liability insurance, employers’ liability insurance, directors’ and officers’ insurance, legal expenses insurance, business equipment insurance and cyber insurance.

Advice and support for all self-employed workers

Our coronavirus advice was a vital lifeline for many freelancers when the pandemic first hit, and we made this available to members and non-members via our Covid-19 hub which we continue to keep up to date with the latest relevant information. We have now collated the most important advice on how to cope if you have been affected and the support that is available to you in the IPSE Advice coronavirus section.

We also want to provide advice to those at the beginning of their career about the different models of self-employment that are available and where to go for further support to help you make important decisions about how you manage your business. Do you think it should be run as a limited company? Would working as a sole trader suit you better? Find out more about the implications and how you can start out on the path to success in the Ways of working section.

To make this resource as useful as possible we are calling on our members to let us know what areas you would like to see covered in IPSE Advice. Are there gaps in your knowledge? What topics are difficult to get clear advice on elsewhere? From starting out to growing your business, whatever stage of your self-employed journey you have reached, we would love to know what you want to hear from us.

Please submit your suggestions using the form on the Advice page or feel free to email us as always at [email protected]. You can also reach us by phone on 0208 897 9970 if you have any questions or would like to know more about your IPSE membership, we always like to hear from you!
