IPSE Freelancer Awards 2023: New to Self-Employment Award Winner

Winner: Clare Andrews

Clare Andrews

Clare Andrews, author of ‘The Ultimate Air Fryer Cookbook’, won the New to Self-Employment Award.

The Award celebrates the achievements of freelancers who have taken the brave step of working for themselves within the last 24 months.

After being gifted an Air Fryer by her mother during luring lockdown in 2021, Clare began to test and create healthy, affordable recipes for it, documenting her journey on social media.

Having built an online following, Clare worked with publishing house Penguin Michael Joseph to create her first recipe book, ‘The Ultimate Air Fryer Cookbook’, with a second instalment now in the works.

The book has gone on to be a Sunday Times Bestseller, with Clare appearing on BBC broadcasts to discuss the cost-of-living and the benefits of using low-energy appliances to cut down household bills.

In winning this award, Clare hopes to send the message that “you are never too old to change your career or take the leap into changing your path” whilst inspiring other women to “just go for it”.

The judges said that Clare “demonstrated great business acumen in a short amount of time by taking the brave step of working for themselves. What they have achieved so far is a brilliant example of how to leap forward and take on new opportunities with great success and passion."
