Event Manager

Department: Member Engagement

Full time fixed-term contract: 3-4 months from end of February – 24th June

Salary: £35k pro rata

The role will be required to both work from home and in the office and a laptop will be provided.

The role

The Event Manager role’s main responsibility will be to deliver the IPSE’s flagship event, National Freelancers Day (NFD), on 16 June 2022, which will take place virtually.  The role will organise, promote and execute NFD, an award-winning event for the self-employed.

We are looking for someone to start immediately on a 3-4 month fixed-term contract ending on 24th June. The ideal candidate will be an experienced events professional who will hit the ground running co-ordinating and delivering IPSE’s flagship event.  The role will manage all event logistics (e.g. speaker management, registration, virtual event platforms, budget) in the lead up to the event and in the live virtual environment on the event day.  Virtual event experience is preferable. The role will include:

Programme and speaker management
  • Research, develop and confirm conference programme
  • Speaker management including researching, inviting and confirming speakers and keynotes, updating speaker spreadsheet, collating speaker information for website and promotion and being their main point of contact
  • Compile and send speaker briefs
  • Coordinate and deliver practice sessions
  • Manage the online platform delivering sessions on the day
  • Troubleshoot technical problems with the speakers


Delegate and registration management
  • Set up the registration system (Eventbrite) and manage bookings
  • Manage and respond to all queries from attendees
  • Responsible for post event evaluation, coordinating feedback reports and internal debriefs


  • Develop the marketing plan with Press and Marketing teams
  • Create content for website/emails/blogs and newsletter and work with Marketing team to ensure timely delivery of promotion
  • Create contra agreements with other communities or networks to promote NFD
  • Coordinate and manage content for NFD website and ensure websites are up to date
  • Working with the Marketing team to create content, such as blogs, interviews, graphics and video
  • Assist in the promotion of events including updating content on event websites and app, Eventbrite page, email marketing


Virtual event platforms
  • Research and propose virtual event platforms suitable for elements of NFD
  • Set up the virtual event platforms which will be the main point of focus for all attendees
  • Update all branding (along with a Graphic Designer) in line with NFD brand guidelines
  • Ensure all sponsor exposure in the platform is delivered, and update sponsor branding where necessary
  • Set up other platforms as necessary


  • Liaise with sponsors and ensure contract specifications are fulfilled
  • Creating and coordinating sponsor and speaker briefs, resources, and equipment



The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

  • Educated to at least a university degree level (or equivalent)
  • At least 4 years’ experience of event planning
  • Good all-round event management experience
  • Budget and account management
  • Experience in the membership industry preferred
  • Marketing experience preferred
  • Experience with virtual event technologies
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office and have used CRM or databases before



The candidate will have the following skills:

  • Proven working experience in project management
  • Solid organisational skills including attention to details and multitasking skills
  • Time management skills and the ability to work under pressure to ensure the efficient running of a live event
  • Confident working with internal and external teams delivering exceptional customer service when communicating to event attendees, members, speakers, sponsors, stakeholders etc.
  • Excellent relationship building skills with an ability to work with a variety of stakeholders
  • Budget management
