Illness and injury cover
If you are ill or injured for three or more weeks and cannot work, IPSE will compensate you for loss of earnings.
Around 340,000 people are called up to jury service a year, for an average of 10 days serving on a jury for those who are selected. When you’re self-employed, those days off work can mean a loss of income. That’s why IPSE compensates Freelancer, Umbrella and Director members if you are working on a contract and get called up for jury service, based on your day rate as per the contract.
The recent value of jury service claims covered by IPSE membership is over £39,000 per year.
Membership category | Freelancer | Umbrella | Director |

Level of cover | Up to £2,500 | Up to £2,500 | Up to £5,000 |
If you are called for and serve on a jury you will be compensated up to £500 per day served subject to a maximum 10 day period or £2,500 (for Freelancer and Umbrella members) or £5,000 (for Director members), based on your current contract and less a deduction of any amount recovered from the relevant court. Making a claim is as simple as filling out the relevant claim form and providing evidence of your service. Once you have been an IPSE member for at least 60 days, you are eligible for this benefit.
FAQ: I've already claimed for jury service once, but have been called up again. Will IPSE cover a second claim?
Yes, there is no limit to how many times you can claim this benefit for separate jury services, as long as you are a valid member at the time you are called up.
